LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION CREW LEADER

  1. Position description: The Landscape Construction Crew Leader must be thoroughly familiar with all aspects of landscape construction to include operating equipment, demolition, site and soil prep, grading, planting all materials, interfacing with customers, subcontractors, architects, etc., and require minimal supervision while directing a crew of two to four employees in a safe manner. The Landscape Construction Crew Leader must also attend to and complete all paperwork and administrative requirements related to the job while creating and maintaining a professional job atmosphere.
  2. Reports to: The Landscape Construction Crew Leader reports directly to the Landscape Production Manager.
  3. Skill set and educational requirements: The Landscape Construction Crew Leader, who is a WORKING CREW LEADER, must possess the following skill set and educational background:
  4. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
  5. Possess a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy.
  6. Have a clean criminal record.
  7. Physically able to handle the work load of a Construction Leadman and/or Laborer.
  8. Bilingual in Spanish and English in oral and written forms.
  9. Able to interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner on a daily basis.
  10. Responsibilities:
  11. Has a minimum of three years of experience in landscape construction.
  12. Thoroughly understands all aspects of landscape construction as outlined above.
  13. Able to operate company equipment: skid steer, mini-excavator, mini-skid steer, tracked loader, chop saws, etc.
  14. Able to perform all daily preventative maintenance (PM) on company equipment.
  15. Able to operate a transit, shoot grades and grade sites.
  16. Able to read landscape plans and drawings.
  17. Able to lay out a job site.
  18. Has the leadership capability and demeanor to effectively manage and direct a crew of two to four people.
  19. Meets or exceeds company production standards for landscape installation.
  20. Ensures that jobs are kept on schedule and on budget.
  21. Ensures that all safety procedures are followed and reports any unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  22. Ensures all workers’ compensation insurance claims are properly documented and reported immediately.
  23. Ensures all accidents are properly documented and reported immediately.
  24. Ensures all change orders are processed correctly.
  25. Interfaces with subcontractors to ensure timely and accurate completion of their phase of projects.
  26. Interfaces with suppliers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of job materials.
  27. Ensures that company production standards are met.
  28. Maintains a clean crew truck at all times.
  29. Able to fill out and process all necessary job paperwork, purchase orders, and time sheets, etc.
  30. Able to interact with clients, subcontractors, architects, etc. in a professional and competent manner.
  31. Able to train crew as a team and maintain a high level of morale.
  32. Thoroughly understands and complies with company policies, procedures, and SOPs.
  33. Able to work with minimal supervision from Landscape Supervisor but knows when to ask for assistance.
  34. Is certified in CPR and First Aid.
  35. Continuing education requirement: minimum of 5 hours per year.
  36. Salary, bonus, and/or commissions: Commensurate with experience ($15.00 to $18.00 per hour).

  39. Is organized in all areas (personal office space, field operations, crew truck, job sites, etc.).

  43. Anticipates problems and plans ahead for needed materials, equipment, and assistance.
  44. Requires minimal supervision.
  45. Informs the Landscape Supervisor when assistance is needed.
